The Aylesbury Estate: engaging hard to reach audiences

Quatro provided specialist consultation support in the engagement of the community and general public surrounding the preparation of an Area Action Plan for the Aylesbury Estate in south London.

A range of techniques were employed to reach a diverse and fatigued audience, many of whom had been subjected to over ten years of consultation activities. Quatro:

  • Provided creative ideas to reach and involve the audience
  • Ran a series of staff briefing sessions
  • Raised awareness, promoted and managed events
  • Designed a response collection system and questionnaire
  • Collected, monitoring and evaluated responses
  • Assessed respondents’ profiles
  • Produced a number of perception audits
  • Produced two in depth consultation reports forming part of the Statement of Community Involvement

Headline results showed 85% said the event was useful or interesting and overall participation increased 38%. We achieved an 11% engagement rate with 16-24 year olds, up from almost zero.

78% agreed that the proposals represented the best way forward for the redevelopment of the estate. The AAP was granted approval from the Secretary of State in October 2009.
